Carl Pei’s tech company, Nothing, has introduced two innovative wireless earbuds during an event in Tokyo. The Ear, the premium model priced starting at $149 and £129, is an enhanced version of the previous Ear (2). This model maintains the brand’s signature transparent design and features upgrades like a custom 11 mm dynamic driver and a dual chamber setup for improved sound clarity.
The Ear is equipped with a new smart active noise cancellation (ANC) algorithm that detects and adjusts to leakage between the earbuds and the ear canal, providing up to 45 dB of noise cancellation—nearly double that of its predecessor.
In terms of battery life, the Ear boasts significant improvements, offering up to 40.5 hours of total playback with its charging case and 8.5 hours of continuous use. It also includes an upgraded microphone for clearer communication, supports high-resolution audio streaming via LHDC 5.0 and LDAC codecs over Bluetooth, and features seamless device switching capabilities.
The Ear (a), positioned as a more playful and budget-friendly option, starts at $99 and £99. It introduces a vibrant egg yolk-yellow color variant and includes the same advanced ANC technology found in the more expensive model. The Ear (a) also claims a longer battery life than its sibling, with up to 42.5 hours of playback time with its charging case.
Both models, the Ear and Ear (a), are now available for pre-order on Nothing’s website and will be broadly available for purchase starting April 22.
